The role

The School of Veterinary Science, University of Queensland is seeking a Clinical Anaesthetist / Specialist locum for two blocks of approximately 6 weeks occurring between January and June 2016.

The appointee will work within the UQ Veterinary Medical Centre (Gatton) providing anaesthesia and critical care support to the small animal and equine hospitals and also be involved in clinical teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Most work is with dogs, cats and horses with some exposure to ruminants, birds, exotics and wildlife.

The person

Applicants should possess a Bachelors Degree in Veterinary Science or equivalent registrable in Queensland together with relevant experience of at least 3 years. A PhD or equivalent postgraduate research qualification or postgraduate qualification in Veterinary Anaesthesia is desirable.

We are seeking someone with strong clinical experience in the area of small and large animal anaesthesia who has a commitment to and enthusiasm for Veterinary student education in a clinical context. The incumbent is also required to participate in the shared on call and after-hours emergency roster.


These positions are both full-time, 6 week casual appointments at Academic Level  B or C. The base remuneration package will be in the range:

Academic Level B - $86,853.37 to $103,138.09 p.a, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5% (total package will be in the range $95,104.44 to $112,936.21 p.a.).

Academic Level C -  $106,395 - $122,679 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5% (total package will be in the range $116,502.53 - $134,333.51 p.a.).
